FameLab
![]() | FameLab is an international science-communication competition, primarily organized for researchers, lecturers and students engaged in the fields of mathematics, computer science, engineering, natural sciences and medicine. Participants are given only three minutes to make a striking and meaningful presentation about the results of their research or on other scientific topics in an easy-to-understand form. |
The semi-final of the first Hungarian FameLab competition was held on April 5, 2018, with 46 participants. Based on the jury's evaluation, 12 of them were selected to advance to the national final , which took place at the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on May 14, 2018. The winner of the competition, jointly organized by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the British Council, represented Hungary at the international final in June 2018. This event was the Cheltenham Science Festival held in Great Britain, where competitors from 27 countries matched their preparation and presentation skills.
The FameLab contestants, including university students and experienced researchers, had diverse scientific and professional backgrounds. During the Hungarian FameLab, for the first time in the history of the competition, the details could also be followed using the INFO@HAND FameLab smartphone application. With the support of the application, the audience could also vote for their favorite performer and learn about the results.

„Paw” („Mancs”) Drawing Competition
![]() | On the occasion of the Day of the Hungarian Flag and Coat of Arms, the Research Institute for National Strategy launched a drawing and essay competition entitled “Flags, when they wave...” in 2025. This included a public vote called “Give a helping paw!”, available on Android and iOS platforms in the IM-prepared INFO@HAND smartphone application, developed by the eLearning Department of HUN-REN SZTAKI. |
The call received extremely positive feedback, and a number of high-quality entries were submitted for the very popular topic. In accordance with the terms of the competition, a few selected works per age group participated in the public vote. The entries that collected the most public votes in each age group received a special prize.
Key voting rules:
- One vote can be cast from one device per age group,
- Vote cannot be modified or deleted after cast,
- Users can see which entry they voted for.
